St Mary of the Angels School, where volunteers stayed

Common Ground - view from our window

Common Ground - view of room 12, from my bed, where we stayed, with about 10 or so other people.

Common Ground - our beds

Common Ground - Juan

Common Ground - room 12 windows

Common Ground - there was a lot of stuff in the hall outside our room, and not much light at night, and one night I fell over a suitcase.

Common Ground - light fixture

Common Ground - one of the bathrooms (the old girl's room, but now unisex)

Common Ground - blurry night shots of the dining room, an old gym

Common Ground - everybody washed their own dishes in washtubs in the dining room

Common Ground - the couchateria at night-- a big room full of couches, church pews, and a few computers in one corner, used for meetings, open mic, general hanging out.

Common Ground - someone's things

Common Ground - Juan playing computer games

Common Ground - the medcave

Common Ground - views of one of the stairways...

Common Ground - Lee or Leigh? at the window,

Common Ground - and she took this picture

Common Ground - work crews leaving in the morning to gut houses, work in community gardens

New Orleans - views of the community garden where 30 or so of us prepared flower beds

New Orleans - vegetables growing in back

New Orleans - playing go go music

New Orleans - Perez,

New Orleans - we had to mix sand in with the clayey soil, so the stronger people wheeled loads of sand in and raked it, while people like me sat on the ground and did hand weeding

New Orleans - Juan raking

New Orleans - Juan raking

New Orleans - anole in the greenhouse

New Orleans - Juan and some others put on paint made of the clay, only you can't see it very well in these pictures

New Orleans - there's a clay handprint and stripes on his back

New Orleans - a bee on wonderful smelling blossoms, I think grapefruit?

when I left, I saw these misplaced quotation marks at the airport -
are "you" really "welcome"?
