Nectarine Flan

1/2 cup butter
2/3 c sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp grated lemon peel
1 cup flour
1tbsp lemon juice
1tbsp sugar
3-5 nectarines

set oven at 375 dgrees F
beat butter and sugar until fluffy
beat in eggs, then lemon peel, then flour
butter and flour an 11-inch round tart pan with removable bottom
spread batter evenly in pan
mix together 1 tbsp lemon juice and 1 tbsp sugar
slice nectarines and toss in mixture of lemon juice and sugar;
drain slices to prevent soggy cake
arrange nectarine slices in pinwheel design on top of batter
bake 35-40 minutes, until golden brown and cake is set in center
cool on rack 10 minutes and then remove pan sides
serve warm or cool, topped with whipped cream
serves 10

optional struessel topping
2 tbsp butter
3 tbsp flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup chopped nuts (filberts or almonds)
mix together an scatter over top of batter, bake as above
